How to wash and detail your car - Part 1/2

We found a great 2 part video we wanted to share with you guys about how to wash and detail your car. But everyone already knows how to wash and detail their car right? I mean, how hard can it be? Well, this video points out some common mistakes that could actually cause some major damage to your car! They also utilize lots of great products in this video. Some products you probably already know and love, but their are a few you may be unfamiliar with and are worth checking out.

We definitely recommend hand washing your vehicle once you have any vinyl decals or stickers applied to it. Hand washing will preserve the life of your decal and keep it looking newer longer. Drive through car washes are to rough on decals and while it may not seem to be effected the first few times you go through, it will definitely degrade after multiple trips through the drive through car wash.

Preserve your the life of your decal and your vehicle by applying some of these great tips...oh, and be sure to watch all the way to the end...he's got a really cute bulldog that makes a guest appearance! You know how we love our bullies!

Weird Car Wednesday!

Hey everyone!

We've decided to do a weekly blogging schedule where we'll feature a specific "theme" for each day of the week, and while we don't have it completely worked out yet, we definitely agree that Wednesday will officially be known as "WEIRD CAR WEDNESDAY" here on our blog.

Why??? Well...I was looking around on YouTube the other day at some funny car videos and noticed there were quite a few videos that featured "weird cars". Now this goes beyond "tricked out" or "custom"...I'm talking strange, indescribable...just plain weird forms of transportation.

There seems to be an endless supply of these things, so I thought I'd share a selection of them with all of you once a week.

This week we're featuring three cars you should never...ever...ever...let your children go near.

I think each car is pretty self explanatory....

We hope you've enjoyed Weird Car Wednesday, and if you have any topics or ideas you'd like us to blog about, just let us know!

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked - Myth #8 Efficiency Decreases With Age

Myth #8 - "Fuel Efficiency Decreases as a Car Ages."

Conclusion - MYTH!

We chalk this one up to a problem of perception, because the EPA has determined that after an initial break-in period, MPG can actually increase over the first several years of ownership if a car is properly maintained. When these increases finally subside, some owners may perceive a decrease, but in reality, you may simply be achieving the EPA estimates for your vehicle when it was new. A well-maintained car can often hit the same MPG figures for decades.

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked - Myth #7 Should you overinflate your tires?

Myth #7 "Overinflating Your Tires Improves Fuel Economy."

Conclusion - MYTH!

By all means, inflate your tires to the proper and recommended PSI. But ignore anyone who tells you to keep on pumping once you’ve reached that number. Theoretically, it makes sense that if low PSI means more rolling resistance, then more air in the tire would reduce resistance. In practice, this notion can be dangerous. Overinflated tires can degrade handling and braking and cause uneven tire wear, which can lead to an increased risk of blowouts. Stay within recommended PSI for your vehicles, and try to avoid going above or below the ranges.

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked - Myth #6 Is Premium Gas Worth It?

MYTH #6 - "Premium Gas Improves MPG."

Conclusion - Part Fact / Part Myth

If your goal is to save money by achieving higher average miles-per-gallon scores in daily driving, you should stay away from higher-octane fuels. The extra cost will easily eat up any savings from minimal mileage gains you might see. Further, the reality is that all but some of the highest-end luxury and performance models can run just fine on regular fuel. Check with your vehicle's manufacturer or a trusted mechanic to determine what makes the most sense for your ride.

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked Myth #5 Should You Leave Your Car Running?

Myth #5 "Keeping Your Motor Running While Idling Saves Gas."

Conclusion: MYTH!

You have to make a quick stop at your friend’s house and will be in and out in minutes. It's better to leave the car running because it will use more gas to stop and restart the engine, right? Nope. Pure myth. Again, fuel-injected vehicles start very efficiently, so it’s better to turn off the engine if you'll be idling for more than 30 seconds. But that doesn't mean it's a good idea to shut off your engine when you stuck in traffic. That can be dangerous, contribute to your starter wearing out prematurely, and won't save you more than a few pennies in the long run. One notable exception are new hybrids that safely shut-off the engine automatically while stopped and switch to battery power.

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked #4 - Fuel Additives

Myth #4 "Gas Additives Boost Fuel Economy."

Conclusion: MYTH!

The researchers actually tested dropping pills in thier gas tank in the hopes of increasing fuel economy by adding more oxygen to the fuel. After diligently adding the pills to each tank during a two-thousand-mile road trip, they recorded a one-mile per gallon decrease in average efficiency. Okay, you say, that was their limited experience.

Evidently, the Federal Trade Commission and Environmental Protection Agency agree with their assessment: they have tested many of the additives and other purported fuel-saving products on the market and warn against investing in them. In fact, some "gas-saving" products may damage a car's engine or cause substantial increases in exhaust emissions.

Conclusion...don't waste your money...they can do more harm than good!

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked! Myth #3 Truck Owners...Listen Up!

Myth #3 "Lowering Your Truck's Tailgate Improves Fuel Economy."

Conclusion: MYTH!

Considering their larger engines and total weight figures, many trucks can use a little extra help boosting fuel economy. One popular method has been to lower or remove the tailgate to improve airflow and put the power of aerodynamics in your corner. But the boys from the TV show Mythbusters proved this theory as pure myth by demonstrating that by leaving the tailgate up you will actually save more gas than if you drop the tailgate down.

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked - Myth #2

So here we are on day 2 of our 8 days of fuel economy myths being debunked.

Myth #2 - "Driving With the Air Conditioner Off on the Freeway Saves Fuel"

Conclusion - Part-Truth/Part Myth

Many of us have suffered through a hot summer day on the freeway while riding shotgun with a frugal driver who refuses to turn up the A/C for fear of sacrificing precious miles per gallon. Perhaps you are that driver. If so, we'll start with the good news: you're technically correct; turning up the air conditioning does burn more gas, particularly at low speeds or in city driving conditions. But, we still opted to include this as a myth, because as you approach freeway speeds, the drag created by rolling down the windows rather than rolling them up and cranking the A/C cancels out the extra fuel used to power the compressor, which is actually less at higher speeds when the engine is already pumping out more RPMs anyway. So for your next road trip through the Sun Belt, don't feel guilty about keeping it nice and frosty inside as you cruise down I-10.

Kind of a bummer since around town stop and go driving usually doesn't offer up much of a breeze...it's when you cruising down the interstate that it's tolerable to have the AC off....oh well...fall is right around the corner!

Eight Fuel Economy Myths Debunked! Part 1

Well we've finally done it...we've started a blog! It's been a long time coming and we are so excited to finally be up and running. We plan on using this blog to announce special offers, new product launches, as well as offer up auto care tips and tricks. You can subscribe to our blog through google friend connect, or you can fan us on Facebook where our blog posts will also be displayed.

So I recently read an article about Fuel Economy Myths...most of which I have always believed to be true! I was very surprised that certain myths...like turning the A.C. off to save on gas were not entirely accurate! Whew!

Myth #1: "Changing a Dirty Air Filter will Boost Miles Per Gallon."

Conclusion: Part-truth/Part myth

This is an old bit of conventional auto wisdom from decades past when most cars were using a carburetor. Today's computer-controlled, electronically fuel-injected systems can easily adjust and correct for a little junk in the filter to help maintain efficiency. But to settle the matter once and for all, the federal government conducted a study on the effect of air filter condition on fuel economy. The result? Drivers gain no improvement in economy by replacing dirty filters with new ones. However, the study did find an improvement in acceleration of as much as 6 to 11 percent when drivers replaced dirty filters with clean ones in fuel-injected cars. So it can be worth the money to replace air filters just like your local neighborhood lube shop always recommends.

Drivers of older models that still use carburetors will see fuel-economy improvements by changing the filter. In fact, older models saw between a two- and 14-percent improvement, depending on the overall dirtiness of the filter.

So there you have it...if you have an older make and model...be diligent about changing that air filter...it does make a difference!

Tune in tomorrow when we'll discuss Myth #2...."Driving With the Air Conditioner Off on the Freeway Saves Fuel." hmmmm...I know you cant wait for that one!
